Mass Observation Event  was held on 1st May, 2008.

National Technical Manpower Information System (NTMIS) celebrated its Silver Jubilee on 25 - 26 April, 2008. On the occasion, the Institute hosted the National Conference on "Technical Manpower Supply and Demand"  on 25th April, 2008 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The keynote address was delivered by Shri Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission.

Professor Ajeet Mathur was invited to present a paper ‘The Missing Skills Premia in the Indian Labour Market’ at a seminar organised by ILO, Geneva on March 25, 2008 where the puzzle of the missing skills premia in the Indian Labour Market was discussed. Participants at this seminar who included policymakers, experts from ILO and academics shared their experiences from different parts of the world which revealed that this issue is of urgent international topical interest because similar experiences have recently been observed also in some other countries but not much research on this has yet been undertaken. 

Professor Mathur participated in a symposium at the ILO Sub-Regional Office in Delhi on March 6, 2008 where he urged that the 300 public-private partnerships structured by the DGET in Industrial Training Institutes be drawn into action-research frames to accelerate learning from best experiences to quickly cross-fertilise this experience and also because this would also enable early warning signals where matters go awry.

Professor Ajeet N. Mathur participated in the International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) national consultation seminar on training and employment policy with India organized by Ministry of Labour and Employment and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) on February 20-21, 2008 and presented a paper “National Training Policy: What kind of Roadmap?” (click)

Professor Ajeet N. Mathur presented an invited keynote paper ”The gender burden on women in entrepreneurship and some clues to its management” on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at the 4th International Conference on ’Entrepreneurship in New Economy’ (February 14-16, 2008). (click)

Professor Ajeet N. Mathur published a paper “Whose Future? Dilemma of the Gandhian Eskimo” in an international journal, Futures Volume 39 September, 2007. 895-901.  (click)

As part of its Foundation Day Celebrations, the Institute organised the first Colloquium on "Governance and Rural Development" on February, 2008 and  the second Colloquium on "Governance and Gender" on 6th February, 2008.  The third one on "Governance and Human Capital Formation" was on 7th February, 2008 (more...)

The Institute celebrated its 46th Foundation Day  on 31st January, 2008 at India Habitat Centre. The Foundation Day Lecture on the theme 'Manpower Planning in a Globalising Economy' was delivered by Dr. Bhalchandra Mungekar. The function was presided over by the eminent health specialist Prof. J.S. Neki. Dr. Subas Pani, Secretary, Planning Commission, released the India Yearbook Manpower Profile 2008 on this occassion. The Institute celebrated its 46th Foundation Day on 30th January, 2008 at Institute's campus. A lecture on 'IT Vision Horizons for Academic Campuses' by Nupur Prakash, Dean, University School of Information Technology, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and  a speech on 'Change' by Sari Sofia Anneli Mattila, Tampere University of Technology, Finland were organised on this occassion.

Dr. Rashmi Agrawal  presented a paper titled 'Utilisation of Evaluations' in a Conference 'Challenges in Building Results Based Monitoring and Evaluation Systems for Development Programmes' organised by Mahatma Gandhi Labour Institute, Ahmedabad on 28th January, 2008.

A special convocation was organized on Friday, the January 25, 2008 by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University for award of degrees to 29 participants of Master's Programme in Human Resource Planning and Development (HRP&D) being conducted by the Institute. Honorable Lt. Governor of Delhi & Chancellor Sh. Tejendar Khanna presided over the convocation. Three Medals and Certificates were also awarded. Mr. Fakeeroodeen Khan Yarroo, from Mauritius received the University's Gold Medal for overall best performance. He also received IAMR President's Medal and Certificate of Merit which is awarded by the Institute in recognition of outstanding academic performance. Ms. Anoja Priyadarshani Guruge from Sri Lanka received Director's Medal and Certificate of Merit in recognition of outstanding performance among all women participants.

Shri Atul Kumar Joshi joined the Institute of Applied Manpower Research as Administrative Officer with effect from 21st January, 2008.

Dr. Rashmi Agrawal  presented a paper titled 'Human Psyche and Human Resource Development in Hospitality Sector' in an International workshop on 'Spectrum of Hospitality and Tourism Industry in the Global Scenario' convened at Birsa Institute of Technology, Ranchi on 15th January, 2008. (click)

Prof. Ajeet N. Mathur presented a paper titled 'The Missing Wage Premia in the Indian Technical Labour Market' at the 49th Annual Conference of the Indian Society for Labour Economics, December 15-17, 2007, Hyderabad. (click)

A Seminar on "Self-employment among Women: Experience of Prime Minister's Rozgar Yojana" was held on 22nd November, 2007. The paper was presented by Dr. Rashmi Agrawal. (click)

The Institute participated in the ITEC Day Function organized on 11.10.2007 by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. IAMR Students from the Master's Degree Course and the Advanced Diploma Course thrilled the audience with their rendering "We are the World". Prof. Ajeet N. Mathur, Director, IAMR presented a paper titled "Why some unemployed are unemployable?" at the Second EFA International Conference European Social Fund in Oulu, September 7-8, 2007.

Shri Mangtu Ram joined the Institute of Applied Manpower Research as Finance Officer with effect from 31st August, 2007.

Dr. Anil Kumar Yadav presented a paper titled 'An enquiry into disparity in educational development - A study of district-level' in a seminar organised by IAMR on 24th August, 2007.

Dr. Rashmi Agrawal, Chief, IAMR was invited by Carleton University, CANADA to lead a workshop on 'Conducting Surveys' on 28-29 June, 2007 as co-instructor. This workshop was organised in collaboration with World Bank under the International Programme of Development Evaluation Training (IPDET) with Prof. Gregg Jackson, Senior Professor, U.S.A.

Prof. Ajeet N. Mathur joined the Institute of Applied Manpower Research as its Director with effect from 21st May, 2007.
